Hallelujah! Magazine
A meeting of the Inter-Territorial Production Committee held in Sydney in December 2006, endorsed the concept of publishing the history through magazine, website and video mediums.

The committee spent a number of hours looking at the overall format of the magazine and established a basic outline on which to proceed. The committee felt that Hallelujah would be an appropriate name for the magazine as it clearly indicated that all praise belongs to God who has clearly led the Army in its establishment and development.

We were a rowdy lot!
The Salvation Army has been accused of many things, among them the characteristic of “rowdyism”. The Sydney Morning Herald of December 23, 1882, seeking to comment on the commencement of the Salvation Army in Australia, quoted from an English publication:

"Mrs Frances Power Cobbe, who, while admitting that the adoption of the temperance agitation by the Army has given it a practical aim, yet condemns the Army for its characteristic features in propagating Christianity by ‘rowdy’ means. Mrs. Power goes on; “no one will dispute that this rowdyism really really prevails in the procession, hymns, services, and publications of The Salvation Army. There is no attempt on the part of its leaders to soften the fact that ‘aggressive religion’ involves compelling the attention of the unconverted, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear.”

Keeping it Alive is a project aimed to gather, preserve and share the story The Salvation Army in the South Pacific area.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Keeping It Alive is a history project being undertaken by the four Salvation Army territories in the South Pacific area. The Australia Eastern and Southern Territories, the New Zealand , Fiji and Tonga Territory and the Papua New Guinea Territory . The project will seek to gather information, film, photos, artefact and any other material relevant to the history of The Salvation Army in the South Pacific region.

The aim is to provide a condensed, selective and influential account of the history of The Salvation Army in the South Pacific area using contemporary media tools.

YOUR PARTICIPATION
The Salvation Army is seeking assistance from the community in gathering this historic information. Should you have material such as old letters, diaries, photographs, movie film, artefacts or any other material which you feel may help, please contact us (see right).
